Hi everyone-
We just picked up our "new to us" 2015 Sunstar 27N today; it seems to be well cared for, @ 43k miles, has like new tires, correctly inflated, but seems like the steering and handling are sketchy. We have an under 3k pound toad on a dolly, and generally keep speed at 60/65-but really felt we were getting pushed by semis passing us, and there seems to be looseness or play, in the steering, that complicates the "hold it straight and steady" when the big rigs blow by.
Admittedly, we traded our "C", which was 3 feet shorter, and a good bit lighter, as well as under 20k miles, on a Mercedes chassis-sometimes we got that blown around feeling, but the tighter steering made it feel more confidence inspiring.
I guess I'm asking if the Ford chassis has some service points I need to explore, or is it just something I need to get used to?
Thanks for your help,
Les

Les,

We got our "new to us" 2015 Sunstar 26HE in the fall of 2022. After a couple of short trips I know exactly what you are describing. I don't know how Ford/Winnebago could sell it when it handles like that. After hours of research and "YouTube University", I started down the upgrade path. First I did SuperSprings "Sumo Springs", that got rid of the rocking and bouncing. Next was the Roadmaster "Exact Center" steering stabilizer, that really helped with the wonder & rut tracking. Next was the SuperSteer "SS400 Rear Trac Bar", this really took out that push you feel as the big rigs come past you. Now I don't feel them until they are at the drivers window. Next was SuperSteer again this time Koni FSD, low pressure, replacement shocks. The Bilstein high pressure shock are great on a sports car, but not an RV. These took out the harsh jarring from the highway expansion joints. All in all it's a totally different driver and passenger experience.

Also checkout the guys at 5Star tuning in South Carolina. The tune they have for the F53 chassis is amazing. It fixes the transmission shifting, it stays in the higher gears like it should, and doesn't try to push the engine into the high RPMs. Also, I'm seeing about a 20% improvement in mileage, from 9 to 11 on the highway.

Happy travels,
Jeff
